About Me

“Giving out CVs is like throwing paper planes into the sky and hoping they reach someone”

I am a Graduate in English and Creative Writing, who, simply, is trying to find a full-time job. Which, as most of you know, is impossible. Especially impossible if you’re the idiot who dreams of becoming an editor at a publishing house. So I thought I’d write this blog to vent my anger, frustration and hopelessness on you, the anonymous reader.

N.B. If you, the anonymous reader, happens to be a publisher, take pity on me and give me a job. <INSERT X-FACTOR STYLE SOB STORY HERE>

  1. You mention research job. I am a journalist who used to work full time in London in the industry and out in the country last year, though not currently in a job. You won’t get into research/journalism with your skill set. Take a look at Journalism.co.uk jobs for more insight. You will also have to do some unpaid work experience.

Tweet me if you want to find out more about this field on @Elise_Editing

As regards unemployment generally from what I have been able to work out it’s quite simple. Lots of employers have down sized so when they recruit they recruit one person to do the work that say two or three used to do. That means you have to have a wider skill set than you had before you lost your job.
    Hope this may help.

  2. I’ve only been reading your blog for 5 seconds and already I love and sympathise with it totally – I hate being in intern limbo! I would say that I can’t wait to read more… but I also hope you find a job you love soon 🙂

  3. I would use your about page as an opportunity to make a CV of your experience. Then, if potential employers are looking, they can see what work experience you have easily 🙂
